NM Night (2021-09-24)

Good technical performance, even if my running speed was not too fast, and at the 9th control I was in 9th position when all runners had passed.

But after the 9th control I was falling in a steep downhill, and dislocated my left shoulder. It has happened two times before, both during the Night Champs, but the previous times was in 2008 and 2012. I was far into Nordmarka when it happened, and it took time to get out of the forest and a lift to Oslo, and it got more and more painful. At the emergency room they tried several times to get the shoulder back without success, and after some hours I was moved by ambulance to the hospital. There they used anesthesias to put me in a sleep-like state, and 6 hours after the accident I finally got my shoulder back in the right position.

The bad news was that X-ray and CT images showed that it was a glenoid fracture (the socket of the shoulder is damaged), and I was staying in the hospital for 2 days before I could fly home to Trondheim. Now I have taken new X-ray and CT images, and told that 30 % of the socket of the shoulder is broken, and it's a big risk it will dislocate again if I'm falling. So I will get surgery on the shoulder soon, and then have a long period of rehab in front of me, where I can't move the shoulder/arm at all for the first 4-6 weeks.
