Tight race at the middle-selection to EOC
Map from the middle Today there where held middle-distance at the selection-races to EOC. My speed was OK, but I lost 15 – 30 sec at five of the controls. The map wasn’t so good, so most runners lost a least a little time at some places. Holger Hott Johansen won, and I was 8th, 1.21 behind. It was only 1.30 from the 2nd to 19th place. Marianne Andersen won again the women’s class.

Results (bottom of page) are found at NOF and Andrarums IF.

Selection-races for European Champs in Skåne 15th – 17th April
EOC 2006 The coming weekend I am going to Skåne, in the south of Sweden, for selection-races to the European Championships, who are going to be held in Estonia in the start of May. After last weeks training-camp in Denmark I was one of five runners who was pre-selected for EOC. That mean I can train what’s best for the shape at EOC, and don’t have to worry about the results at the selection-races. But anyway I’m running at full-speed at Saturdays sprint and Sundays middle-distance.
Norges Orienteringforbund
After the races in Skåne the Norwegian Team is going directly at a training-camp in Estonia, to train in relevant terrain for EOC. To be fully rested and able to train as good as possible there I will not run the long-distance selection-race at Monday.

We where living near Rold Skov and where training for the World Champs, who will be held in Århus in August. Saturday we had a relay together with the Swedish and Danish Team and some runners from Kristiansand OK. I did a quite good race, and had one of the best leg-times.

Maps from all trainings are found here, and some of my pictures at OPN.

Start of Trondheim Sprintcup at Risvollan
Map from Trondheim Sprintcup-1 Map from Wings Club-championship in sprint last week Today I was running the first race in this year Trondheim Sprintcup at Risvollan. It was snow in the terrain, which made the running quite tough and influenced on the route-choices. I did an OK race, and got the fastest time. But it was very tight behind me, with Johan Ivarsson and Stig Alvestad just a few seconds behind. I was running some up-hill intervals before the race, to get a bit more hard-training.

Åsa Franzén has taken pictures from the race.

To the right you can see the map from Wings Open Club-championship in sprint last week, where Lars Moholdt was fastest. I had an easy week, and was running the competition at low-speed.

Pictures from Portugal finally on web
Jan-Egil Wagnild running at the Algarve coast Stig Alvestad, Elise Egset and me after sprint-training Pictures from Wings training-camp in Portugal 22nd February – 7th March are now finally on web. It was two really good weeks with training in Portugal. Both the weather and terrain was nice all the time.

The first week we where living in San Pedro de Moel, near Marinha Grande, where the World Cup Final where held in 2000. In the area around Marinha Grande we trained in several nice terrains. The first weekend we where competeing at Portugal O-Meeting in Abrantes.

Map from middle-distance in Mora After the sprint at POM we went some days to Algarve, at the south-coast of Portugal. There it was really nice weather, and we got some easier days without orienteering but with good running-training and recreation.

Me from the middle-distance in Mora The last weekend we where running competitions in Mora, who is one of the nicest places I have been running orienteering. The terrain had hard ground so it was possible to run fast, but also quite many stones and rocks so you had to concentrate on the orienteering to keep the right direction and contact with the map.

Maps from Portugal are found on the pages for maps from competitions spring 2006 and maps from trainings 2006.

Good training in Silkeborg and snowy Spring Cup near Hillerød in Denmark 22nd – 26th March
Map from Spring Cup Classiic From Wednesday to Friday Stig Alvestad, Elise Egseth and I from Wing where training in the area around Silkeborg, where the World Champs are going to be held in August. The terrain was snow-free, and we got four good training-sessions. One of them was the course from the Danish Champs in sprint 2005 in Århus.

Spring Cup In the weekend we went to Hillerød north of Copenhagen for Spring Cup. It was a really good start field this year, with 8 of the 10 best at the World Ranking in both men’s and women’s class. At Saturdays classic I did a quite good race, and was 12th, 2 min behind Matthias Merz from Switzerland. I did some smaller mistakes in the beginning, and was caught up by Merz at the 11th control. The rest of the race I had contact with him, and held good speed. It was some snow in the forest, so it became lots of tracks and you had to start late to fight for the top-positions.

At today’s relay Stig Alvestad was running a good first leg for Wing, and changed over to me as 16th, just 48 sec behind the leader. I missed the first control, and was tired after tough training the whole week. Because of a lot of snow in the forest and the fact that we didn’t have any runners after me at the team I was maybe not so motivated, and lost several minutes to the lead. Results from Classic and Relay.
